Snow Leopard Disk Space Savings

Snow Leopard Disk Space Savings

Just upgraded from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

And that freed up 21 GB on my hard disk (171GB – 192GB).

I know some of it is due to the switch from the binary to the metric system (1GB is now 1000MB instead of 1024MB), but heck, even half of that is insane.

It’s not magic — Rosetta has been removed, all binaries are now Intel only, and the new Darwin 10 is leaner. Tada.

Haha yeah. I seriously wonder how Windows 7 is going to compete on their space saving claims.

But Rosetta’s tiny, and the binaries are only several GB. The optional extras (e.g. printer drivers and QT 7 pro) are approximately 4 – 5 GB.

Juxtapose that with 21 GB, and oh my word…

Either way, i’m just happy that my computer gets faster with each successive OS release. Snow kitty’s discernibly snappier. :)
