Zhaohan and I had our first endurance training session last Sunday. Overall I think it went pretty well. Couldn’t extend my arms more than halfway as my biceps were aching really badly from friday’s heavy workout. Was wondering how I’d be able to cope with the day’s workout.
We started off light with 50 chinups, before moving off to the pool. I managed to do 50 laps in just over an hour, while zhaohan did at least twenty-odd. Think it was quite tiring for him to try pacing me as he’s not used to swimming and has never done chinups before entering the pool. And he forgot to bring his goggles which makes for a crappy swim. :(
He left just as I was about to do my last twenty laps as he a rehearsal in a while. We both didn’t think it prudent for him to hang around till I was done; better to grab some rest.
Though I didn’t time myself, I knew I would have done at least a max of 35 min for 1500m. Lots of room for improvement, though.
After showering, I went for a slow 2.4 run. It was quite horrendous for me and I would like to reiterate my utter dislike for quick bipedal movement. After the swim I realised the tendons in my feet were even more relaxed than normal. Hence my already flat feet were overpronating really badly. Could only manage two to three hundred metres without developing shin splints. It just felt so unbalanced, unnatural an duncomfortable trying to keep my weight on the outer edges of my feet. It was so slow that I was not even sweating a lot, even considering the midday sun.
Completed the run in 16.37min. :(
Anyways we’re not considering triathlons at the moment so we’re not rushing our transitions. But otherwise it’s a good start and I’ll need to start looking for better running shoes as well.
So to recap it was 50 chinups, 2.5km swim, 2.4km run.
We’ll see how much faster and further we can go in subsequent sessions. :)
